What is Illustration Regeneration?
If you're not happy with a particular illustration in your story, you can regenerate it. This creates a brand new illustration for that specific page while keeping the rest of your story unchanged.
Two Types of Regeneration
When regenerating an illustration, you have two options:
Full Regeneration
Creates a new illustration based on the story text and character references. Since it's text-led, each regeneration produces a completely unique result. This is best when:
- You want a completely different composition or scene
- The current illustration doesn't match the story at all
- You want a fresh interpretation without any influence from the current image
Modification Regeneration
Uses the current illustration as a reference to make adjustments while preserving the overall composition. This option is only available when you provide guidance. This is best when:
- You like the overall scene but want small adjustments (e.g., "make the sky brighter," "add more flowers")
- You want to keep the character pose and setting
- You're making minor tweaks rather than major changes
Modification regeneration is especially useful for dual-page spreads, as it preserves the layout and character positioning while allowing you to refine details.
How to Regenerate an Illustration
- Open your story — Go to the story you want to change from "My Storybooks."
- Enter Edit Mode — Tap the Edit button in the toolbar at the top of your story. The regenerate button only appears in Edit Mode.
- Tap "Try Again" — You'll see a Try Again button on each illustration. Tap it on the page you want to regenerate.
- Choose regeneration type — Check the "Modify Illustration" box to use modification mode, or leave it unchecked for full regeneration.
- Add guidance (optional) — A dialog will appear where you can describe what you'd like changed. This is optional — leave it blank to get a fresh take.
- Wait for generation — A new illustration will be created in about 30-60 seconds.
- Review the result — If you're happy, great! If not, you can regenerate again. Tap Done Editing when you're finished.
Tips for Better Results
- Regenerate individual pages — You don't need to recreate the entire story. Just regenerate the pages that don't look right.
- Try multiple times — Each regeneration produces a unique result. If the first one isn't perfect, try again.
- Check character likeness — Make sure the regenerated illustration still looks like your child.
Illustration regeneration uses the same art style and story context as the original. You'll get a different composition but the same visual feel.
When to Regenerate vs. Create a New Story
- Regenerate when most of the story looks great and only 1-2 illustrations need improvement.
- Create a new story when you want a completely different art style, story direction, or character appearance.
