Yes — You Can Publish Your Book on Amazon
Once you've purchased a story on Lullaby, you own the right to self-publish it under your own name — including on Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing), Amazon's free self-publishing platform. Your book gets a real Amazon listing, and anyone can buy it as a print-on-demand paperback.
Just want a printed copy of your book? Order it directly from Lullaby — premium hardcover and layflat formats, completely private, delivered to your door in one tap. Publishing on Amazon is the right path when you want your book publicly for sale, not when you simply want it printed.
Publishing happens on your own Amazon KDP account, under your name as the author. Lullaby provides the print-ready files; Amazon handles printing, selling, and shipping. Your Amazon listing, pricing, and sales are entirely yours to manage.
What Is Amazon KDP?
KDP is Amazon's self-publishing service. It's free to use — you upload your book files, set a price, and Amazon prints copies on demand whenever someone orders. You earn a royalty (60% of list price minus printing costs for paperbacks) on every sale.
One important thing to know: KDP books are publicly listed on Amazon. There is no private publishing — anyone can find and buy your book, and your child's name and cartoon likeness will be visible to the public. If that's not what you're after, order a printed book directly from Lullaby instead — it exists nowhere publicly.
Step 1: Finish Your Book
- Unlock the digital version — purchase gives you full access, editing, and downloads.
- Review every page — use Edit Mode to polish the text and regenerate illustrations until it's perfect. Once a book is published, changing it means re-uploading files to Amazon.
Step 2: Download Your KDP Package
- Open your story and tap the Export button .
- Select "Amazon KDP package" — you'll get a ZIP file containing:
interior.pdf— your book pages, formatted to KDP's specifications (8.5 × 8.5 inch trim with bleed, minimum 24 pages)cover.pdf— a print-ready wraparound cover (back, spine, and front)README.txt— your book's exact specs and step-by-step upload instructions
The KDP package is available after purchasing the digital unlock, for stories written in English or German. Amazon KDP does not currently support Hebrew paperbacks.
Step 3: Create Your KDP Account
Go to kdp.amazon.com and sign in with your Amazon account (or create one). You'll need to fill in author, tax, and bank details once — this is how Amazon pays your royalties.
Step 4: Upload Your Book
- On your KDP Bookshelf, click Create → Paperback.
- Enter your title, author name (you!), and description.
- Declare AI-generated content — Amazon requires you to disclose that the text and illustrations were AI-generated. Check the AI content boxes on the Content page. This is internal to Amazon, is not shown on your book's product page, and does not affect your book's ranking.
- Choose trim size 8.5 × 8.5 in, premium color ink, and upload
interior.pdf. - Upload
cover.pdfas your cover file. - Use Amazon's Print Previewer to check every page, then approve.
- Set your list price. Amazon shows your estimated royalty per sale.
- Hit Publish — your book typically goes live within 72 hours.
Honest AI disclosure matters. Amazon actively detects undisclosed AI content, and failing to disclose can get a book — or an entire KDP account — removed.
Step 5: Order Author Copies (Optional)
Once your book is live, you can order paperback copies of it at printing cost from your KDP Bookshelf — handy for a book-launch moment or a classroom set.
For keepsake copies — the ones for grandparents, birthdays, and the nightstand — a printed book from Lullaby is the premium option: thicker paper, hardcover and layflat binding, and no public listing required. Many families do both: publish on KDP for the world, order the special copy from Lullaby.

Good to Know
- You are the publisher. Lullaby isn't involved in your Amazon listing — pricing, description, and customer service on Amazon are yours.
- Don't use the Lullaby name or logo on your published book (see our Terms).
- Kids' books sell better with a real title and author page — take a moment to write a warm description.
